Radiation Nurse Specialist Position

Job Summary

As a Radiation Nurse Specialist at Nuvance Health, you will provide clinical leadership and expertise in the area of radiation oncology. Your primary responsibility will be to meet the physical, psychological, social, and educational needs of patients and their families, as well as provide consultation to other healthcare providers regarding patient needs and nursing care.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Collaborate with Radiation Oncologists to implement physician orders and provide high-quality patient care.
  2. Conduct thorough nursing assessments at the time of simulation or within one week of start of therapy, including medication reconciliation.
  3. Identify and address patient needs related to skin reactions, weight management, vital signs, dietary needs, social services, and psychology needs.
  4. Provide education and support to patients, their families, and healthcare providers on treatments, side effects, and symptom management.
  5. Perform direct patient care as needed, including monitoring IVs and equipment, skin care, safety assessment, and medication administration.
  6. Document all assessments and clinical care provided, referrals, communication with other departments or physician offices, and medication administration in the medical record.
  7. Maintain liaison with other disciplines, such as nutritional support, speech therapy, social work, navigators, social services, inpatient staff, and office staff.
  8. Promote a positive professional image by exhibiting excellent patient experience skills, positive communication skills, professional behavior, and appearance.
  9. Ensure compliance with all responsibilities related to the position, including management of supplies in exam rooms and equipment.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree
  • Minimum Experience: three years
  • Current Registered Nurse License
  • CPR certification
  • Desired: Formal radiation/oncology training, OCN certification

Working Conditions

  • Manual: Some manual skills/motor coordination and finger dexterity
  • Occupational: Little or no potential for occupational risk
  • Physical Effort: Medium to Heavy effort. May exert up to 35 lbs. force
  • Physical Environment: Generally pleasant working conditions
