We are seeking a highly skilled Radiation Therapist to join our team at the UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The successful candidate will have a competitive salary of approximately $90,000 - $130,000 per year, depending on experience.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Provide radiation therapy to patients as prescribed by a radiation oncologist.
  2. Follow established safety protocols to minimize exposure to radiation.
  3. Verify treatment plans are accurate and consistent with prescriptions.
  4. Educate patients on potential side effects of radiation treatment and how to manage associated side effects.
  5. Collaborate with healthcare teams to ensure seamless patient care.
  6. Follow established departmental policies, procedures, objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.
  7. Prepare written documentation as required by the profession and department.
  8. Schedule patients for treatments; interface with physicists at initiation of treatment; consult with supportive care physicians, nurses, and social workers.
  9. Prepare rooms and equipment for patients; transfer immobilized patients from stretchers to treatment couches; position patients in prescribed anatomical positions for treatment.
  10. Perform simulations as prescribed by radiation oncologists.
  11. Fabricate individualized immobilization devices (molds, blocks, compensators, and other beam-modifying devices).
  12. Utilize imaging technologies for simulation, treatment planning, and treatment delivery as prescribed by radiation oncologists.
  13. Ensure medical equipment is regularly maintained and in excellent working order.
  14. Perform daily warm-up procedures prior to each patient treatment and maintain documentation of quality assurance activities.
  15. Check equipment for malfunctions/abnormal quality assurance readings and report any findings to appropriate personnel.
  16. Supervise or participate in training and education of students.
  17. Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
