About the Job

We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Appointee to join our Multiscale Fabrication Science & Technology Development Department. The successful candidate will work on fundamental science projects related to atomically precise placement of donors in silicon, with a focus on discovering new semiclassical and quantum device concepts.

The primary responsibility of this position is to drive research in a defined area of interest as part of a diverse team of physicists, engineers, and chemists. The candidate will be encouraged to contribute significantly at the forefront of research in the following areas:

  • Fabrication of novel materials using controlled placement of matter with atomic precision
  • Discovery of novel surface chemistry pathways using scanning tunneling microscopy
  • Characterization, microfabrication, measurement, and/or modeling of materials and devices

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with a range of tools and techniques, including scanning tunneling microscopy, fabrication and epitaxial growth of nanoscale devices, and surface chemistry and characterization. The candidate will also have the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse team of experts and contribute to the development of new technologies.

Requirements
  • PhD in electrical engineering, materials science, physics, chemistry, or a related field
  • Experience in experimental R&D in a laboratory
  • Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE L security clearance
Desirable Qualifications
  • Presentations at technical conferences or meetings
  • Experience performing original research, as demonstrated by a record of first-author publications in peer-reviewed journals
  • Experience with scanning tunneling microscopy, fabrication and/or epitaxial growth of nanoscale devices, and surface chemistry and characterization
