As a Lead Environmental Scientist specializing in wetlands, you will play a pivotal role in guiding our dedicated team at Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, Inc. This position is designed for an experienced professional eager to advance their career in environmental science while contributing to significant projects that enhance community infrastructure and promote sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
1. Conduct detailed wetland delineations utilizing a three-parameter approach, including:
- Field indicators of wetland hydrology
- Identification of dominant plant species across various strata
- Assessment of hydric soils in the region
2. Prepare comprehensive wetland functional assessments and evaluate potential impacts of various projects.
3. Coordinate and develop NEPA documentation to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
4. Supervise and mentor a team of environmental scientists, fostering a collaborative work environment.
5. Evaluate, design, and monitor wetland mitigation sites, ensuring functional assessments are completed effectively.
6. Prepare soil profile descriptions in accordance with USDA NRCS standards.
7. Develop erosion and sediment control plans that align with regulatory requirements.
8. Engage with environmental regulatory agencies to facilitate consultations and permit applications.
9. Oversee construction monitoring to ensure adherence to environmental permit conditions.
10. Manage complex permitting projects and tasks, ensuring timely completion and compliance.
11. Lead meetings with clients and stakeholders to identify needs and address any challenges.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
- Over 15 years of professional experience focused on wetlands and environmental permitting.
- Proven team management experience is advantageous.
- Professional certifications such as Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) or Certified Professional Soil Scientist are required.
