Job Overview

A Staff Physical Therapist at Hillsboro Area Hospital Inc. is responsible for delivering expert services in rehabilitative, functional, and preventive therapy programs. This role encompasses the assessment of all assigned patients, crafting goal-oriented treatment strategies, executing and managing the treatment plan, and ensuring proper discharge planning.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Fosters and upholds an environment aligned with the Mission, Vision, and Values of the hospital.
  • Conducts comprehensive evaluations to assess the patient's functional capabilities and requirements.
  • Formulates objectives and suitable treatment plans based on evaluation outcomes, medical condition, patient needs, age, and anticipated discharge circumstances, in collaboration with the patient and healthcare providers.
  • Administers diagnostic assessments, including range-of-motion and manual muscle tests, gait and functional analyses, and measurements of body parts, documenting and analyzing findings to create personalized treatment programs with ongoing evaluations.
  • Delivers necessary therapeutic interventions as per the care plan to restore functionality, alleviate pain, and avert disability resulting from illness or injury.
  • Guides and instructs patients in safe mobility techniques, the fitting and use of assistive devices, therapeutic exercises, modality application, and wound/burn care.
  • Engages actively in communication with physicians and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Reassesses patient conditions as mandated by policy and adjusts treatment plans based on patient responses to therapeutic modalities.
  • Contributes to discharge planning processes.
  • Supervises Physical Therapy Assistants on-site.
  • Accurately prepares patient documentation for medical records, ensuring clarity and objectivity within designated timeframes.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding all patient, hospital, or physician-related information.
  • Keeps the assigned work area organized and orderly.
  • Stays informed about general hospital and department-specific policies and procedures.
  • Other responsibilities may be assigned and are subject to change with or without prior notice.

  • Possesses the knowledge and skills to effectively communicate and interact with patients, visitors, and staff across various age groups: Infant, Pediatric/Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric.
  • Demonstrates the ability to collaborate well within a diverse team.
  • Capable of performing under pressure with time constraints.
  • Exhibits strong concentration abilities.
  • Works independently with minimal supervision.
  • Maintains good mental health and emotional stability.
  • Exhibits proper personal grooming and hygiene.
  • Possesses the ability to acquire and maintain current knowledge in physical therapy practices.
  • Displays knowledge of sterile and non-sterile supplies, equipment, and procedures.
  • Demonstrates understanding and adherence to Universal Precautions.
  • Recognizes and respects the individual emotional, social, and cultural needs of patients, including their religious beliefs.
  • Always upholds the dignity and respect of all patients.
  • Assists with the cleaning of work and storage areas on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
  • Exhibits a genuine interest and concern for the patient population served.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides ongoing guidance to Physical Therapy Assistants and Aides to meet departmental workload needs through a collaborative team approach.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor of Science Degree from an APTA accredited program in Physical Therapy.
  • Ability to pass specific competencies for this role.
  • Proficient in both oral and written communication.
  • Preferred experience of 1 year.
  • Maintains required and approved Continuing Education Units (CEUs) to uphold licensure.

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES

  • Must hold and maintain PT Illinois Licensure.
  • CPR certification is required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Involves prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing and walking.
  • Requires climbing, balancing, stooping, and kneeling.
  • Involves repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers for grasping, pulling, pushing, and feeling.
  • Frequently lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds and occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds; assistance is required for loads exceeding 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Operates in a well-lit, climate-controlled setting.
  • May encounter communicable diseases, hypodermic/IV needles, and unpleasant sights, odors, and materials.
  • The noise level in the work environment ranges from quiet to moderate.

CORPORATE COMPLIANCE

Participates in training and/or attends necessary meetings to fulfill the criteria outlined in Hillsboro Health's Corporate Compliance Plan and Code of Conduct. Understands compliance responsibilities and knows to contact the Corporate Compliance Officer regarding any questions or concerns related to fraud and/or abuse.
