Position Overview

The physician is entrusted with the comprehensive medical management and treatment of patients served by the hospice interdisciplinary team (IDT). This role necessitates collaboration and consultation with the attending physicians of the patients.

Key Responsibilities

The physician will:

  • Provide leadership and support to the hospice IDT staff and volunteers, ensuring adherence to high-quality care standards for both patients and their families.
  • Engage actively in the clinical education and training of personnel involved in hospice patient care, admissions, and administrative functions.
Qualifications
  • Must maintain good standing as a member of the medical staff at an accredited hospital within the state of practice.
  • Possess a solid understanding of primary medical care principles, particularly with a focus on oncology.
  • Have expertise in palliative medicine, emphasizing the management of symptoms related to terminal illnesses.
  • Be registered with the Drug Enforcement Agency to prescribe controlled substances.
  • Hold medical malpractice and liability insurance that meets the standards set by VITAS.
Education
  • Graduated from an accredited medical or osteopathic school with a valid license to practice in the relevant state.
  • Board eligible or certified in Internal Medicine, Family Practice, or a related specialty, with a proficient understanding of palliative care principles and symptom management.
