Position Overview:

The Culinary Service Associate plays a vital role in maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and sanitation in the kitchen and dining areas. This position is responsible for the thorough washing, rinsing, and sanitizing of all kitchenware, including pots, pans, and utensils, adhering to state-approved sanitation protocols. Additionally, the associate will assist in setting up the trayline, serving meals with appropriate portion control, and ensuring the timely delivery and retrieval of patient food trays and carts.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure each patient tray is checked for proper food temperature prior to delivery.
  2. Deliver and serve food trays to patients in a prompt, courteous, and accurate manner, following established service protocols.
  3. Retrieve food trays and carts from patient areas according to the established schedule.
  4. Maintain cleanliness of workstations, including counters, sinks, walls, and shelves, utilizing the double bucket cleaning method at the start and end of each shift.
  5. Adhere to sanitation procedures as outlined in the work area.
  6. Document food waste accurately on the Food Waste Log after each meal service.
  7. Ensure wash, rinse, and sanitizing water is maintained at proper levels as per guidelines.
  8. Record temperatures of the pot and pan machine at each meal using test strips and document on the Pot & Pan Temperature Form.
  9. Prepare food items for tray assembly, including pouring beverages and adding necessary items to the food cart before delivery.
  10. Efficiently process patient trays and service ware through the dishwashing machine, following proper techniques.
  11. Track patient food intake on menus and complete the Calorie Count Form.
  12. Review patient menus for any special requests and communicate with the appropriate personnel for fulfillment.
  13. Serve food on patient trays, including late trays, ensuring accuracy, neatness, and adherence to dietary guidelines.
  14. Load trays correctly onto food carts while maintaining appropriate service speed.
  15. Scrape and soak pots, pans, and utensils in soapy water, ensuring thorough cleaning and sanitization.
  16. Organize items in appropriate baskets for sanitization in the pot and pan machine.
  17. Allow sanitized items to air dry and store them properly to maintain hygiene.
  18. Report any broken or malfunctioning equipment to management promptly.

Qualifications:

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Able to maintain focus despite interruptions.
  • Capable of following both oral and written instructions.
  • Possess manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Mechanical aptitude for disassembling and reassembling equipment as needed.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent preferred.
  • GED Equivalent must be obtained within one year of employment.
