POSITION OVERVIEW:
The role of the Emergency Medical Services Instructor involves delivering educational content for various courses, including skill labs and patient care simulations. Instruction may cover topics such as Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT), Paramedic, and standardized training programs (e.g., ACLS, PALS, PHTLS).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure that both theoretical knowledge and practical skills align with national standards and evidence-based practices.
- Act as an instructor and facilitator during skill labs and patient care scenarios, utilizing established teaching and assessment tools.
- Maintain precise records of student performance and progress.
- Assess students across cognitive, psychomotor, and affective domains, providing constructive feedback as necessary.
- Deliver course content as agreed upon with the Program Manager.
- Supervise students in clinical settings in collaboration with the Clinical Coordinator.
- Stay updated on state and local EMS regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Maintain instructor certification for standardized courses as mutually agreed.
- Foster positive working relationships within the organization based on experience and feedback.
- Utilize effective problem-solving skills when addressing identified issues.
- Communicate effectively with staff and students, serving as a role model.
- Handle student information with discretion and confidentiality.
- Execute tasks efficiently to optimize productivity.
- Assist in the upkeep of program equipment.
- Adapt to changing priorities and respond to program needs promptly.
- Demonstrate sound judgment in situations not covered by existing guidelines.
- Deliver educational presentations using adult learning principles.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and external partners.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
- Work independently and manage stress effectively.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience:
- A minimum of three years of progressive experience in a clinical or field setting as an EMT or Paramedic.
- Prior experience as an adjunct instructor is preferred.
