About the Role

Vantage Point Solutions, a leading provider of telecommunications consulting and engineering services, is seeking a highly skilled professional to join our team of experts. We have an immediate opening for a Data Network Consultant in our Birmingham, AL office.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer and manage routers and switches to ensure optimal network performance.
  • Diagnose and resolve ISP network problems, utilizing ticketing systems to track and manage issues.
  • Collaborate with vendor Technical Assistance Centers (TAC) to resolve complex network issues.
  • Provide exceptional customer service, responding to and resolving requests in a prompt, efficient, and courteous manner.
  • Develop and maintain Method of Procedures (MOP), configuration scripts, and supporting documentation for scheduled network maintenance.
  • Perform periodic network maintenance, including software upgrades, cutovers, intrusive changes, and diagnostics.
  • Manage and document configuration changes and network architectures using tools such as Excel, Word, and Visio.
  • Communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and apply this knowledge to the role.
  • Evaluate networking equipment and software solutions for clients.
Requirements
  • Self-motivated and resourceful individual with good judgment.
  • Attention to detail, with proficiency in proofreading, data, and communication.
  • Strong written communication skills across multiple platforms.
  • Proficiency in common Microsoft programs, including Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, and Teams.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Route/switch experience with Cisco, Arista, or Juniper equipment.
  • Packet optical transport experience with Ribbon, Ciena, or Fujitsu.
  • Understanding of network protocols, including BGP, OSPF, ISIS, VLANs, and xSTP.
  • Basic understanding of ISP services, including DHCP, DNS, PPPOE, and RADIUS.
  • Minimum three years of experience in network design and administration.
  • CCNA/JNCIS or similar certification.
