The Orthopedic Surgeon will deliver extensive orthopedic services to both adult and pediatric patients within a rural healthcare clinic environment. Key responsibilities encompass direct patient interaction in the outpatient clinic, surgical interventions in the operating theater, and on-call duties for the critical access hospital designated as Level IV Trauma. The surgeon will engage in quality assurance initiatives, peer review activities, and uphold compliance with regulatory standards. Additionally, the role includes participation in administrative responsibilities, utilization review processes, and attendance at clinic, departmental, and hospital meetings as mandated by the governing medical staff bylaws.

Work Schedule:

  • 1.0 FTE
  • 36 hours of patient-facing care, inclusive of 8 hours weekly in the operating room

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver comprehensive orthopedic care services to adults and school-aged children.
  • On-call coverage for the Critical Access Hospital includes 15 (fifteen) 24-hour shifts monthly, with half designated as primary call and the other half as backup to the Orthopedic Physician Assistant.
  • Admit, assess, diagnose, treat, and provide consultations for adult patients and school-aged children to rectify or manage conditions, illnesses, and injuries affecting the extremities, spine, and related structures through medical, surgical, and rehabilitative means.
  • Exhibit proficiency in fundamental orthopedic surgical techniques.
  • Collaborate with on-site Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Radiology teams.
  • Provide care for patients experiencing trauma at our Level IV trauma center.
  • Support initiatives aimed at disease prevention and enhancement of quality of life.
  • Offer patient-centered education and guidance on various orthopedic injuries, empowering patients to make informed healthcare decisions.
  • Actively participate in quality assurance programs to uphold and improve care standards.
  • Engage in peer review processes to foster ongoing professional growth and quality enhancement efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with annual educational requirements and regulatory standards.
  • Complete all necessary administrative duties, ensuring accurate and timely documentation of services rendered for billing purposes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid medical license to practice in Montana or eligibility to obtain licensure.
  • Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution.
  • Board certification or eligibility in Orthopedic Surgery.
  • Demonstrated performance of at least 100 general orthopedic procedures within the past year or successful completion of a hospital-affiliated accredited residency, specialized clinical fellowship, or research.
  • DEA registration and other necessary certifications for practice.
  • Strong commitment to collaboration with primary care teams, hospitalist services, and other specialists.
  • Excellent communication, community leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
