Job Summary:
The Perioperative Services Clinical Pharmacist is responsible for delivering comprehensive pharmaceutical care to patients across various surgical settings, including the PACU, Same Day Surgery, Operating Rooms, Interventional Radiology, Labor and Delivery, and Endoscopy.
This role is integral to a collaborative approach aimed at adhering to established guidelines from the Surgical Care Improvement Project.
The pharmacist will also oversee, assess, and compile the facility's medication utilization programs as necessary and contribute to the execution of cost-saving initiatives.
Qualifications:
Mandatory Requirements:
- Valid New Jersey pharmacist registration
- Licensed pharmacist immunizer in New Jersey
- Degree in Pharmacy (Bachelor of Science or PharmD) from an accredited institution
- Completion of a PGY1 residency program or equivalent experience
- Board of Pharmacy Specialty Certification to be obtained within one year of employment
- BLS and ACLS certifications required within six months of employment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Completion of a PGY2 residency or equivalent experience is preferred
Work Schedule Requirements:
- Full-Time
- Day shifts with Saturday coverage every six weeks
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as a primary resource for drug information for the healthcare team, tailored to specific patient demographics
- Foster professional development through participation in educational opportunities, literature review, workshops, and in-service training
- Serve as a liaison between the Pharmacy Department and clinical staff regarding medication therapy management, including prescription orders and related issues
- Mentor pharmacy students and residents in PGY1 and PGY2 programs
- Monitor medication prescribing practices in line with established drug usage criteria prior to dispensing
- Collaborate with the Director of Pharmacy and Assistant Director of Clinical Pharmacy Services to enhance clinical services
- Engage in departmental activities, committees, and projects as assigned
- Provide insights on clinical objectives, policies, procedures, and financial forecasting
- Support departmental and organizational goals, contributing to quality improvement initiatives
- Document and analyze clinical activities, interventions, medication errors, and adverse drug reactions as per departmental guidelines
- Participate in training pharmacy staff and deliver at least one clinical presentation annually
- Ensure medication orders are complete, appropriate, and legally compliant through a thorough screening process
