Position Overview:

The Lead MRI Technologist is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the MRI department, ensuring high-quality imaging services are delivered to patients. This role involves directing, training, and evaluating the performance of MRI staff while operating advanced magnetic resonance imaging equipment to capture detailed cross-sectional images for diagnostic purposes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and mentor a team of three or more MRI Technologists, providing guidance and support in their daily tasks.
  • Conduct orientations for new team members to ensure they are well-acquainted with departmental protocols.
  • Execute patient imaging studies in accordance with established protocols, ensuring the correct placement of coils and equipment.
  • Operate MRI machinery and related devices to deliver quality diagnostic services, including inputting scan sequences and adjusting imaging parameters.
  • Communicate effectively with patients to explain MRI procedures, addressing any concerns with professionalism and empathy.
  • Maintain a safe environment for both patients and staff by adhering to safety protocols and monitoring for any potential hazards.
  • Perform additional duties as required to support the department's operations.

Supervisory Duties:

The incumbent is expected to motivate and guide other staff members but does not possess the authority to hire, terminate, or discipline employees.

Qualifications:

Experience:

  • A minimum of two years of recent experience as a MRI Technologist within Kaiser Permanente, demonstrating proficiency in all required duties, or
  • Three years of continuous experience in other healthcare settings as a MRI Technologist.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Radiologic Technologist Certificate (California).
  • Certified Radiologic Technologist - Venipuncture Certificate (California) within six months of hire.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certificate in Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

Additional Requirements:

  • Proven ability to train and develop other Technologists.
  • Thorough knowledge of MRI protocols and procedures, ensuring high standards of patient care.
  • Regularly assigned to oversee the work of three or more MRI Technologists, with at least two being direct reports.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present information clearly.
  • Willingness to work within a collaborative Labor Management Partnership environment.
