Student Success Advisor

This role is integral to the STEP Office and involves close collaboration with university faculty and staff to deliver comprehensive advising services. This is a 10-month, benefits-eligible position.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide guidance to a diverse student population, particularly those traditionally underrepresented in STEM fields, including minorities and first-generation college students, in alignment with Truman's commitment to the Missouri Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation in STEM (MOLSAMP).
- Track and evaluate student progress towards degree completion, ensuring regular meetings to discuss academic performance and goals.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of university academic policies to assist students in making informed decisions regarding their educational objectives.
- Coordinate the efforts of tutors and other student workers to enhance academic support.
- Assist in organizing MOLSAMP program activities, including data collection, reporting, database management, and communication with faculty, staff, and external stakeholders.
- Engage in collaborative efforts with the Center for Diversity and Inclusion, the Center for Academic Excellence, the McNair Program, and other university offices to further the mission of the STEP Office.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree.
- Demonstrated intercultural competence and the ability to connect with low-income and first-generation students from diverse cultural and racial backgrounds.
- Proven ability to work both collaboratively and independently, with a goal-oriented mindset and self-motivation.
- Exceptional written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in a STEM discipline.
- Master's degree in student affairs, education, or counseling.
- Experience in a higher education environment.
- Background in grant administration and program coordination.
- Experience in academic advising, career counseling, or student development.
