Job Summary:

FEFA, LLC is seeking a highly skilled Research Veterinary Technician III to support an animal research facility in Bethesda, MD.

This role involves a range of veterinary and supervisory duties to ensure the health and welfare of the research animals.

The technician will work closely with the veterinary and technical staff, ensuring proper animal care, performing medical procedures, and maintaining accurate records.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply medical terminology effectively in all communications.
  • Supervise technical staff, including evaluation, correction, and mentoring.
  • Administer medications via various routes (IV, IM, SQ, IP, ID, PO).
  • Safely handle and restrain animals for observation and minor procedures.
  • Collect and record physiological data (e.g., body temperature, pulse, heart rate).
  • Follow instructions and demonstrate proficiency in assigned tasks.
  • Calculate drug dosages and administer treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
  • Identify and report signs of abnormal or poor animal health.
  • Assist veterinarians or scientists during procedures.
  • Maintain sanitary conditions in treatment and surgical areas.
  • Develop and revise Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as needed.
  • Collect, preserve, and prepare samples (blood, urine, feces, skin scrapings).
  • Perform PCR, colony management, and laboratory management tasks.
  • Develop and establish SOPs, policies, and procedures.
  • Monitor and assess animal health, accurately scoring observations.
  • Maintain comprehensive records and identify areas for staff skill development.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking skills by reviewing procedures and ensuring efficiency and consistency in technical staff's work.

Requirements:

  • Associate of Arts Degree in Veterinary Technology or equivalent experience.
  • Current AALAS certification at the LATG level, or eligibility to take the exam within one year of hire.
  • Minimum of 5 years of veterinary technical experience.
  • Solid understanding of animal anatomy and medical terminology.
  • Ability to work Monday through Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm, with weekend and holiday shifts as scheduled (generally between 7:00 am and 11:00 am).
  • U.S. citizenship with the ability to obtain security clearance.
