POSITION OVERVIEW:
The full-time nursing faculty member engages in all facets of the nursing program activities.
They participate in the development and review of the curriculum, actively implement the curriculum as designed, and assess outcomes to make necessary adjustments.
The faculty member may be tasked with teaching theoretical concepts, nursing skills training in the simulation lab, and/or overseeing nursing practice at clinical locations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Ensure the safety of students and colleagues. Address any safety hazards or potential hazards immediately.
Take responsibility for maintaining an orderly learning environment and the appropriate and safe use of instructional facilities and equipment.
Class Preparation:
Dedicate time each day to prepare lesson materials. Have a comprehensive understanding of course content and adhere to lesson plans. Prepare in advance to ensure students have adequate materials and equipment for all classes and lab assignments.
Instructional Training:
Employ effective instructional techniques in the classroom. Foster classroom participation through questioning, student presentations, and group activities. Relate class lessons to lab experiences.
Organize, plan, and prepare students' lab projects, providing effective hands-on training. Ensure that materials and equipment are ready and available.
Student Retention:
Identify all students at risk (attendance, academic performance, and conduct-related issues) and take proactive measures to assist them through tutoring, encouragement, and collaboration with the Program Director, Student Services Coordinator, and Student Retention Specialist to support their continued education.
Continuing Education:
Actively pursue and complete professional development and certifications. Seek to enhance teaching skills and techniques through various personal improvement avenues. Stay current with industry changes within their field. Maintain competency and relevance in the subject matter of courses taught and in teaching methodologies. Complete 6 CEUs annually.
Student Competencies:
Organize, manage, and ensure the completion of student competencies for each phase of the program.
Attendance:
Take attendance twice per schedule and post attendance on the instructor portal daily before midnight.
Student Documentation:
Document all issues related to students (e.g., behavioral issues, absenteeism, tardiness, inability to perform tasks/skills, lack of participation, or difficulty working with others) in a timely and accurate manner.
Classroom Management:
Maintain an orderly classroom environment, manage student behavior effectively, and prevent disruptions to the learning process. Listen to students and colleagues to resolve conflicts and establish effective communication.
Understand, follow, and enforce institutional rules, policies, and procedures. Keep the curriculum, performance standards, competencies, lesson plans, and assessments current with industry needs. Utilize the competency tracking and recording system designed for the program. Maintain and transfer students' competency records to subsequent instructors. Ensure records are available for review at any time.
Assist in organizing and/or conducting field trips. Supervise lab/classroom clean-up by students. Complete grading within three workdays. Perform other assigned work-related duties.
Requirements:
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
1. Master's degree or higher in nursing education from an accredited institution.
2. Current RN license from the State of Texas or compact states.
3.
Prior teaching experience demonstrating teaching abilities and maintaining current knowledge, clinical expertise, and safety in the subject area of responsibility.
4. Two years of full-time clinical experience as an RN in the specialty area of instruction.- OR 1.
2. Minimum of 15 semester credit hours in related subject areas.
3. Minimum of three years of teaching experience in the required field.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Must possess strong presentation skills and the ability to communicate effectively in public.
Effective verbal and written communication skills, along with analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving abilities.
Current knowledge and proficiency with computer technology (e.g., word processing, email, database) or proven ability to acquire these skills.
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently.
Must be customer service oriented.
Ability and willingness to comply with institutional policies and procedures.
Ability to evaluate objectively, fairly, and consistently.
Creativity and initiative.
Ability to correctly use and demonstrate all standard equipment and tools within the subject area.
Must have a valid driver's license and current minimum legal insurance coverage on a personal vehicle.
Work Environment:
Typical classroom, lab, and clinical settings.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This role is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing throughout the day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
