Job Title: Early Childhood Educator

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Early Childhood Educator to join our team at United Community Action Partnership, Inc. as a Head Start Assistant Teacher.

Job Summary:

The Head Start Assistant Teacher will work closely with the Head Start Teacher to provide comprehensive Head Start experiences that meet the requirements of the Head Start Performance Standards. This role will empower parents as team members in a comprehensive approach to child development and self-sufficiency.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Head Start Teacher in planning and preparing for center days.
  • Perform required record keeping.
  • Contribute to the planning of classroom health and nutrition activities.
  • Attend training and staff meetings as designated.
  • Provide short-term substitute support in the absence of the Head Start Teacher.
  • Assist with janitorial duties as needed.
  • Support grantee efforts in recruitment of Head Start children.
  • Follow established safety procedures.
  • Drive Head Start Bus or provide bus monitoring as applicable to the area.
  • Support and model United's Behavioral Competencies.
Requirements:
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • One year of experience working with 3-5 year-olds.
  • A current Child Development Associate (CDA) or an Early Childhood Degree or willingness to obtain within two years.
  • CDL or willingness to obtain within three months as applicable to the area.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Computer/keyboarding skills required.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to travel in a nine-county area regularly and out of the nine-county area for meetings, workshops, and conferences.
  • Reliable, regular attendance.
  • Reliable mode of transportation.
  • Knowledge and understanding of child development.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving or conflict resolution skills.
  • Satisfactory completion of background check.
  • Satisfactory completion of medical exam and health screenings as required per Head Start regulations.
