Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Mechanical Inspector to join our team at SAFEbuilt. As a Senior Mechanical Inspector, you will be responsible for conducting technical field inspections of heating, ventilating, air-conditioning, refrigeration, and automatic fire suppression systems in residential, commercial, and industrial establishments under active building permits.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Inspect and test mechanical installations in progress and upon completion
  • Advise contractors on changes required to assure code compliance, engage in periodic surveillance of assigned area to detect violations, and perform inspections of existing commercial businesses for Certificates of Use and Occupancy
  • Provide information to contractors and the public, and assist in the resolution of disagreements
  • Conduct field inspections of air-conditioning and heating systems, insulation, pressure and process piping, refrigeration, cooling towers, pneumatic tube conveyors, medical gases, industrial and commercial ventilating systems, commercial kitchen exhaust systems, spray booths, fire sprinkler systems, and similar equipment and mechanical systems
  • Perform acceptance tests for mechanical systems including exhaust and supply fan operation, discharge test for automatic fire suppression systems, and other test procedures
  • Provide recommendations and suggestions to contractors regarding changes necessary to assure compliance with the South Florida Building Code
  • Perform inspections on existing commercial businesses such as industrial food handlers, taverns, night clubs, restaurants, auto repair facilities, manufacturing plants and warehouses for Certificates of Use and Occupancy
  • Verify fire integrity of building construction for fire rated shafts, partitions and ceilings. Conduct routine and periodic patrols and inspections of assigned area to detect code violations
  • Organize inspection route schedule and maintain accurate records of inspections
  • Answer telephone calls from contractors and the public; offer information and clarification; assist in resolving conflicts between contractors and the public
  • Approve qualifications for homeowners permits
Requirements:
  • Considerable knowledge of the materials, methods, and practices used in building construction, electrical, plumbing, or mechanical installation, and observes during stages in construction possible defects and violations that must be corrected
  • Considerable knowledge of possible defects and flaws in mechanical systems or installation, building construction, electrical, plumbing, and of effective corrective measures
  • Considerable knowledge of the codes and regulations governing building construction, electrical, plumbing, or mechanical installations, alteration, and repair, and environmental protection
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and blueprints, and to recognize deviations from such plans in the construction process
  • Ability to explain, interpret, and enforce codes and regulations firmly, tactfully, and impartially
  • Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations
  • Ability to use personal computers
Special Requirements:
  • Florida Standard Inspector Mechanical License required
  • Certified as a Mechanical Inspector by the Broward County Board of Rules and Appeals
  • Valid driver's license with good driving record
