Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY: The Payroll Specialist plays a crucial role in the financial operations of the organization. This position is responsible for assisting in the formulation of agency budgets and overseeing the expenditures of approved budgets for designated programs. The specialist will process payments to vendors and manage the preparation and entry of financial data, including journal entries and cash receipts.

Additionally, this role involves generating reports for Division Directors and Managers, preparing financial statements for the Board of Directors, and compiling necessary financial reports for funding sources. The Payroll Specialist will also reconcile bank statements for assigned accounts and ensure the accurate and timely processing of bi-weekly payroll using the ADP Workforce Now Payroll System.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in budget development and monitor expenditures.
  • Process vendor payments and manage financial data entry.
  • Generate reports for management and prepare financial statements.
  • Reconcile bank statements and manage payroll processing.
  • Perform general accounting duties and related tasks as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS: A bachelor's degree in accounting or a comparable combination of formal training is required. Candidates should possess a minimum of five years of experience in general accounting and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. A strong understanding of payroll processes, including preparation, balancing, internal controls, and payroll taxes, is essential. Familiarity with double-entry fund accounting is necessary, and experience with ADP Workforce Now is preferred. Knowledge of non-profit and governmental accounting is advantageous. The ideal candidate must demonstrate the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, exhibit strong attention to detail, and maintain confidentiality. Excellent communication skills are essential for success in this role.

Work hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., totaling 40 hours per week.
