Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Probation Officer to join our team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. As a Probation Officer, you will be responsible for supervising a specialized caseload of high-risk inmates and probationers, conducting investigations, and providing administrative services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise a caseload of high-risk inmates and probationers
  • Conduct investigations and gather information
  • Prepare reports and provide recommendations to the court
  • Collaborate with probationers, district, and community resources to develop and manage individualized treatment plans
  • Make home and community contacts in accordance with case needs and supervision plans
Requirements
  • Valid driver's license
  • Experience working directly with diverse groups of inmates or probationers, co-workers, and community agencies in a criminal justice and/or human services setting
  • Experience providing high-volume case management/supervision, counseling, and documenting case activities on an ongoing basis in a fast-paced criminal justice and/or human services setting
  • Experience gathering information, creating, reviewing, and presenting reports to official or administrative entities
  • Experience with direct delivery of human services, including experience related to probation and parole practices
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced knowledge in Rehabilitation Counseling, Psychology, Sociology/Social Work, Criminal Justice, or a related human services field or equivalent applicable training or experience
  • Awareness of Evidence-Based Practices and Reentry initiatives
  • Experience with planning and directing projects and training others
