ROLE SUMMARY

The Multimodality Imaging Technologist plays a crucial role in assisting healthcare providers during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. This position involves preparing patients and operating sophisticated imaging equipment to capture high-quality diagnostic images. The technologist integrates technical skills with compassionate patient interaction to ensure exceptional care and accurate diagnostic results.

Key Responsibilities:

Patient Care:
  • Ensure patient safety and comfort throughout their visit.
  • Clearly explain procedures and post-procedure instructions to alleviate patient anxiety.
  • Manage workflow effectively to prioritize patient needs and ensure timely arrivals and departures.
  • Foster a supportive environment to build patient trust and cooperation.
  • Utilize feedback from patient satisfaction surveys to identify areas for improvement.
Compliance:
  • Adhere to OSHA regulations and implement universal precautions as necessary.
  • Maintain cleanliness of examination surfaces between patients.
  • Provide fresh linens, including sheets and gowns, for patient use.
  • Promptly address spills and maintain a safe environment.
  • Store equipment properly when not in use.
Team Collaboration:
  • Engage in open communication with colleagues to achieve shared goals.
  • Participate in regular team meetings to discuss performance and strategies.
Technical Proficiency:
  • Safely operate imaging equipment and follow established protocols.
  • Maintain sterile conditions and perform quality control checks on equipment.
  • Adjust imaging parameters to ensure optimal quality and clarity.
  • Critically evaluate images to determine the need for retakes.
Additional Duties:
The incumbent may be required to perform other related tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School diploma or GED required; completion of an accredited Radiology program is essential.

Experience: A minimum of 3 years in imaging is preferred. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for further details.

Licensure: Must possess at least one of the following certifications: CT, MR, Mammo, Dexa, Nuclear Medicine (NMTCB), Sonography (ARDMS), or Interventional Radiology.

Skills:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Capacity to thrive in a high-pressure environment.
  • Strong multitasking and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to perform diagnostic procedures across various patient age groups.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Physical Demand Code: 13A, Imaging
Work Function/Activity: Medium to Heavy Physical Demand

This role requires prolonged standing, frequent reaching, and the ability to lift/push/pull up to 100 lbs. Safe handling equipment must be used for weights exceeding 35 lbs. Exposure to radiation is a possibility. This job description may be updated at any time at the discretion of UVA Health Northern VA & Culpeper.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Use of safety equipment, such as HEPA masks, may be necessary.
  • On-call responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
  • Willingness to travel between facilities as required.
