POSITION SUMMARY

The Multimodality Imaging Technologist plays a crucial role in assisting healthcare providers during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. This position involves preparing patients and operating imaging equipment to capture high-quality diagnostic images. The technologist integrates scientific expertise with effective patient communication to deliver exceptional care and valuable diagnostic insights.

Key Responsibilities:

Patient Care:
Ensures the safety and comfort of patients within the imaging department by:
  • Clearly explaining procedures and post-procedure instructions to alleviate patient anxiety.
  • Prioritizing patient workflow based on individual conditions to ensure timely arrivals and departures.
  • Creating a welcoming environment that fosters patient trust and cooperation.
  • Utilizing feedback from patient satisfaction surveys to identify improvement opportunities.
Compliance:
Adheres to OSHA regulations and implements universal precautions by:
  • Cleaning examination surfaces between patient visits.
  • Providing clean linens, including sheets and gowns.
  • Promptly addressing spills following safety protocols.
  • Storing equipment properly when not in use.
Team Collaboration:
Works collaboratively within a team to achieve shared goals by:
  • Engaging in professional communication with colleagues.
  • Participating in regular team meetings to discuss performance and improvements.
Technical Expertise:
Demonstrates proficiency in operating imaging equipment by:
  • Maintaining sterile environments and equipment.
  • Adjusting imaging devices to achieve optimal density and contrast.
  • Conducting necessary quality control checks on equipment.
  • Utilizing established protocols to capture images of internal structures.
  • Evaluating image quality and determining the need for retakes.
Additional Duties:
The incumbent may be required to perform other responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School diploma or GED required; completion of an accredited Radiology program.

Experience: A minimum of 3 years in imaging preferred. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details.

Licensure: Must possess at least one of the following certifications: CT, MR, Mammo, Dexa, Nuclear Medicine (NMTCB), Sonography (ARDMS), or Interventional Radiology.

Skills:
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Capacity to thrive in a high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
  • Competence in performing diagnostic procedures across various patient age groups.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Physical Demand Code: 13A, Imaging
Work Function/Activity: Medium to Heavy Physical Demand

This role requires prolonged standing, frequent reaching, and the ability to lift/push/pull up to 100 lbs. Safe Handling Equipment must be used for weights exceeding 35 lbs. Exposure to radiation may occur. This job description is subject to change at the discretion of UVA Health Northern VA & Culpeper.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • May require the use of safety equipment for infection prevention.
  • On-call responsibilities may be assigned.
  • Ability to travel between facilities as needed.
