We are seeking a highly skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team at Quality Carriers. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing preventative maintenance, special inspections, and general repairs on tractor and trailer units in accordance with DOT, federal, and state regulations and company standards.
Key Responsibilities:- Diagnose and repair tractors and trailers, ensuring equipment meets Federal FHWA standards.
- Perform annual/systematic 90-day and HM-183 inspections on equipment as required.
- Operate a yard hostler truck to move trailers within the facility yard and the shop as needed.
- Order and receive parts and supplies as needed.
- Adhere to all established safety (OSHA) and environmental policies and standards.
- Clean, organize, and maintain the work environment to ensure equipment longevity and workplace safety.
- Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.
- Perform HM-183 DOT inspections (P, V, I, K, L, HS, UC, EPA-M27).
- At least 3 years of experience in repair and service of trailers and medium-duty trucks.
- Demonstrated knowledge of vehicle and equipment theory, principles, and repair relating to diesel engines, air, electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
- Demonstrated knowledge of tractor and trailer maintenance, DOT rules and regulations, company policies, and procedures.
- Ability to use vehicle diagnostic software.
- Up to 3 years as a fleet mechanic. DOT HM-183 certification, training, or experience. ASE certification not required but recommended.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
