Job Title: CNC Lathe Machinist

At TEC Group Inc., we are seeking a skilled CNC Lathe Machinist to join our team. As a CNC Lathe Machinist, you will be responsible for setting up and operating computer numerical control lathes to perform various machine operations on metallic and nonmetallic workpieces.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Read and interpret blueprints, planning sheets, sketches, programs, and related technical data to determine tooling requirements, setup procedures, control settings, and machining methods and sequences.
  • Mount, align, and secure tooling, attachments, and workpieces on the machine.
  • Select and install cutting tools in the machine spindle.
  • Enter commands to retrieve preprogrammed instructions from the database.
  • Calculate and set machine controls to position the spindle in relation to the workpiece and to regulate factors such as cutting depth, speed, feed, and coolant flow.
  • Start the machine to change cutting tools and setup according to the required machining sequence or to measure parts for conformance to blueprint specifications, using precision measuring instruments.
  • Enter commands or manually adjust machine controls to correct malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining.
  • Operate the machine manually to perform nonautomated functions and when automatic programming is faulty or the machine malfunctions.
  • Discuss control media errors with the supervisor or programming personnel to resolve problems.
  • May instruct other workers.
  • Clean the machine, tooling, and parts and remove chips from the machine sumps when necessary.
  • Perform machine maintenance and repairs as required.
  • Use statistical process control techniques when applicable.
  • Interact with the supervisor and/or engineering staff to improve productivity or troubleshoot machining problems.
  • Maintain general cleanliness of the work area using 5S techniques and methods.
  • Maintain production records using time/production cards, layout sheets, programs, etc.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of one year factory-related experience.
  • Reasoning Ability: Apply principles of rational systems to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagrammatic or schedule form.
  • Mathematical Skills: Algebra-deal with system of real numbers; linear, quadratic, rational, exponential, logarithmic, angle, and circular functions, and inverse functions; related algebraic solution of equations and inequalities; limits and continuity; and probability and statistical inference. Geometry-deductive axiomatic geometry, plane, and solid, and rectangular coordinates. Shop Math-Practical application of fractions, percentages, ratio, and proportion, measurement, logarithms, practical algebra, geometric construction, and essentials of trigonometry.
  • Language Skills: ability to read safety rules, instructions, and methods and procedures in mechanical drawing and layout work; write using proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar; speak utilizing correct English.
Physical Demands:
  • Must be able to exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally and 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently.
  • Must be able to frequently: work with hands, use depth perception, focus eyes, maintain body equilibrium, have clarity of vision at 20 inches or less, and extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Must be able to occasionally: kneel, hear, crouch, work primarily with fingers, feel primarily with fingertips, identify and distinguish colors, stoop, and talk.
Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to loud noise from manufacturing. They will frequently be exposed to moving mechanical parts, oils/solvents, fumes, noxious odors, mists, gases, and poor ventilation that affect the respiratory system, eyes, or skin. They will occasionally be exposed to electric shock.
