Job Summary

The Chief Business Officer assumes responsibility for district business services and operations, including fiscal planning and management, facilities, construction, maintenance, and operations, food service, transportation, child development, and charters. The CBO manages, plans, organizes, coordinates, and directs the work of the district's budget, accounting, payroll, attendance accounting, and accounts payable and support functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fiscal planning and management, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
  • Facilities management, including maintenance, construction, and operations
  • Food service and transportation management
  • Child development and charter school oversight
  • Purchasing and procurement management
  • Student attendance and safety management
  • Risk management and energy conservation

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Understanding of education business administration and accounting principles and methods
  • Knowledge of technology and software applications used in school business operations
  • Understanding of laws and regulations governing school district business and accounting
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience in school business administration
  • Minimum of three years of increasingly responsible experience in school business operations management
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Possession of a valid California driver's license and insurability

Desired Qualifications

  • FCMAT or CASBO Certificate of Professional Designation as CBO
  • Masters degree in school or public administration
  • Previous experience as a business officer in a California school district
  • Successful experience in developing consensus decisions with groups
  • Familiarity with transportation, maintenance, facilities, food service, purchasing, and construction
