About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Psychiatric Technician to join our multidisciplinary team at Carilion Clinic. As a member of our team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of adults and children with mental illness on our acute psychiatric hospital unit.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with observing patients and reporting any unusual circumstances to licensed nurses.
  • Organize and prioritize nursing care in accordance with unit standards.
  • Complete admission and discharge processes, as well as documentation, according to unit standards.
  • Provide patient treatments as delegated, such as EKGs, blood glucose testing, and enemas.
  • Act as a patient advocate, protector of patient rights, and provider of psychological, social, and cultural support.
  • Organize and lead daily goals/wrap-up groups.
Requirements
  • High school graduate or GED required.
  • Psychiatry-related or nursing assistant experience preferred.
  • Ability to handle and restrain patients who may be disruptive or physically violent.
  • Willingness to learn medical terminology and clinical procedures.
