Psychiatric Technician

As a Psychiatric Technician at Carilion Clinic, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of adults and children with mental illness on our acute psychiatric hospital unit. Your responsibilities will include delivering patient care, assisting with activities of daily living, providing secretarial support, leading goals/wrap up groups, and direct/lead code secures activities.
Key Responsibilities- Observe patients and report any unusual circumstances to licensed nurses.
- Organize and prioritize nursing care in accordance with unit standards.
- Complete admission/discharge processes and documentation according to unit standards in charts/EMRs.
- Ensure patient safety rounds are conducted every 15 minutes or according to unit policy.
- Perform activities of daily living and assist with meeting nutritional needs of patients.
- Provide patient treatments as delegated, such as EKGs, blood glucose testing, I&O, enemas, etc.
- Act as a patient advocate, protector of patient rights, and provider of psychological/social/cultural support.
- Provide patients and their families with appropriate information and care in a timely manner.
- Organize and lead daily goals/wrap up groups, reporting any issues or concerns to licensed nurses.
- High school graduate or GED required.
- Psychiatry-related or nursing assistant experience preferred.
- Ability to handle/restrain patients who may be disruptive and/or physically violent.
- Willingness and ability to learn medical terminology and clinical procedures.
- De-escalation training must be successfully completed within four months of hire and then maintained going forward.
- AHA BLS-HCP certification required.
- Valid Virginia State Driver's license required in the NRV to transport patients.
