Job Summary:

As a Psychiatric Technician at Carilion Clinic, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of adults and children with mental illness on our acute psychiatric hospital unit. This is a challenging yet rewarding position that requires a unique blend of clinical skills, empathy, and communication abilities.

Responsibilities:

• Assist with observing patients and reporting any unusual circumstances to licensed nurses
• Organize and prioritize nursing care in accordance with unit standards
• Complete admission and discharge processes, as well as documentation in the electronic medical record
• Provide patient treatments as delegated, such as EKGs, blood glucose testing, and enemas
• Act as a patient advocate, protector of patient rights, and provider of psychological, social, and cultural support

Requirements:

• High school graduate or equivalent required
• Psychiatry-related or nursing assistant experience preferred
• Ability to handle and restrain patients who may be disruptive or physically violent
• Willingness to learn medical terminology and clinical procedures
