Speech-Language Pathologist Job Description

Socorro Consolidated Schools is seeking a highly skilled Speech-Language Pathologist to join our team. As a Speech-Language Pathologist, you will play a critical role in identifying, evaluating, and providing therapy for students with speech and language impairments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Organize and conduct identification programs for students with potential speech/language difficulties.
  • Evaluate speech and language functions, and develop individualized plans to address identified needs.
  • Implement the clinical program, including direct therapy with individual students or groups, and consultation with teachers and other district staff.
  • Comply with State Standards, District Policies, and ASHA Guidelines in the processes of referral, screening, and placement.
  • Collaborate with the Individualized Educational Plan Committee to recommend and plan for program services.
  • Administer appropriate assessments for each area of suspected speech/language impairment, and maintain ongoing assessment to verify progress toward established goals.
  • Develop and maintain the instructional component of the IEP, including long-range goals and specific objectives.
  • Document student progress, attendance, and other relevant information.
  • Attend workshops, in-service training, and University programs to obtain up-to-date information in the area of speech and language, and maintain required certifications and licensure.
Requirements:
  • Must hold a current NM Public Education license, N.M. SLP Licensing board license, and National Board Certification for Speech/Language Pathologist (ASHA).
  • Must obtain a minimum of 1.0 CEU's (10 contact hours) per year for licensure requirements.
  • Valid Driver's License and Car Insurance.
  • Ability to travel from site to site.
Working Conditions:

The Speech-Language Pathologist will work in a variety of settings, including schools and other district facilities. The position requires the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to prioritize tasks and maintain accurate and detailed records.

The Speech-Language Pathologist will be required to push, pull, lift, and carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds, and to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods. The position also requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and to maintain confidentiality with sensitive matters.

Socorro Consolidated Schools provides all training required by OSHA to ensure employee safety.
