About Homes for the Homeless

Homes for the Homeless operates shelters for families experiencing homelessness in NYC, offering a supportive environment where families can access a range of onsite programs and services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments with each family to understand their strengths and service needs.
  • Monitor and coordinate social service and counseling support, including timely interventions.
  • Ensure effective social services delivery to clients, incorporating models and best practices such as trauma-informed and family-centered care.
  • Monitor and document client progress toward service plan goals.
  • Provide support to families in shelter and refer them to counseling or other services as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Case Manager and support staff to address challenging client situations.
  • Improve linkages to mental health, education, and community-based services.
  • Strengthen permanency outcomes for families with children in shelter.
  • Manage record keeping, data collection, and evaluation of services for families.
  • Support the Family Services department by conducting trainings and promoting best practices.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Social Work or Mental Health Counseling.
  • Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or Licensed Master Health Counselor (LMHC) in the state of New York.
  • Familiarity with substance use disorders, addiction treatment services, domestic violence, child abuse and maltreatment, trauma, and mental health conditions.
  • Sensitivity and awareness of working with homeless and vulnerable populations.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus.
