POSITION SUMMARY:

This role serves as an individual contributor responsible for the comprehensive management, business development, analysis, and oversight of a highly intricate portfolio of business. Recognized as a technical authority in a specific underwriting domain, this position operates under general management guidance, working within broad parameters on assignments that demand a high level of technical complexity and coordination. The scope may encompass regional, industry segment, or company-wide responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts a range of duties in alignment with departmental standards:
  • Engages with highly intricate underwriting risks utilizing diagnostic and systematic evaluations to determine acceptability. Crafts specialized endorsement language for complex risks.
  • Establishes appropriate pricing for complex risks within the assigned portfolio, based on financial and competitive analysis, adhering to compliance requirements with minimal oversight.
  • Recommends underwriting policies and pricing strategies.
  • Evaluates the quality, quantity, and profitability of complex underwritten risks; prepares and presents analytical reports to management.
  • Promotes products and services through agencies or the brokerage community and conducts field visits.
  • Fosters and maintains relationships with agencies and/or brokers representing significant producers within the designated territory to achieve favorable and profitable outcomes on complex, high-risk business.
  • Stays informed on state/territory regulations, industry trends, and activities. May participate in industry associations.
  • Mentors and supports less experienced underwriters and contributes to the development of underwriting training programs.
  • Utilizes advanced features in relevant CNA systems to execute daily tasks.
  • Oversees special underwriting projects and presentations.
Reporting Structure:
  • Reports to Manager or above.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
  • Advanced technical expertise and underwriting proficiency, with a deep understanding of insurance and underwriting principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively engage with all levels of CNA's internal and external business partners.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguous situations and challenges.
  • Creativity in addressing unique and complex business issues.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Professional designations are preferred.
  • Typically requires a minimum of eight years of underwriting experience.
