POSITION SUMMARY

The Mechanical Systems Associate Engineer is accountable to the Engineering Superintendent, Mechanical, serving as the technical authority for fixed equipment, piping, heat exchangers, tanks, and mechanical systems. This role involves supporting system maintenance and enhancing these systems, including all related documentation. The individual will provide guidance and technical expertise to junior support staff, engineering design teams, maintenance, and production units.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Act as the mechanical systems administrator, offering daily support to ensure operational efficiency of plant systems.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on mechanical engineering issues, mentoring support teams and interpreting relevant codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Build collaborative relationships with personnel across departments to identify opportunities for value enhancement in project execution.
  • Promote safety and environmental awareness through regular job observations and discussions with plant personnel.
  • Utilize standard engineering principles and practices to execute a variety of assignments effectively.
  • Leverage established technologies and begin to explore innovative methods and techniques.
  • May take on project management responsibilities for ongoing or short-term engineering/construction initiatives.
  • With general oversight, engage in basic to moderately complex engineering assignments/projects.
  • Exercise independent judgment on technical matters within established procedures to determine appropriate actions.
  • Make informed decisions regarding work methods, often guided by previous experiences and compliance requirements.
  • Address operational and technical challenges within the project scope.
  • Additional tasks may be assigned as business needs evolve.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

Knowledge:

Familiarity with LNG transportation, storage, and processing, including health, safety, maintenance, operations, and applicable regulations and standards. Understanding of fixed mechanical equipment and systems, national codes, and their application in operational settings.

Skills:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, Project, PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated leadership and administrative capabilities.
  • Strong awareness of safety considerations in hazardous environments.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Able to effectively communicate across various organizational levels and with diverse groups.
  • Capable of collaborating with a culturally diverse technical team.
  • Ability to establish respectful relationships with management, peers, and facility personnel.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills, capable of managing multiple tasks accurately and timely.
  • Proven problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Skilled public speaker, capable of delivering industry-specific presentations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering; a Master's degree is preferred. A Professional Engineer License is advantageous.

Experience: Minimum of one year in an industrial engineering or operations role. Recent LNG experience is preferred, though experience in petrochemical, NGL, cryogenic natural gas processing, or other hydrocarbon processing may be acceptable.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Work is primarily conducted in an industrial plant setting.
  • Occasional remote work may be required outside of standard hours.
  • Limited travel may be necessary based on business needs.
  • Subject to drug and alcohol testing as per applicable regulations.
  • Physical demands include standing, walking, climbing, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Exposure to various weather conditions and noise levels is expected.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision and depth perception.
  • Must maintain a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card.
