Job Description:

As a General Manager at RaceTrac, you will be responsible for driving profitability for one store and leading up to 45 employees. You will continually deliver on RaceTrac's mission of making people's lives simpler and more enjoyable through a focus on friendly service, food execution, cleanliness, building talent, and driving success.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Friendly Service: Establish an environment of prompt, efficient, and courteous service and effectively engage in conflict management.
  • Leadership: Lead and direct positive and professional relationships with co-workers, direct reports, guests, and vendors.
  • Communication: Communicate respectfully and maintain a consistent team-oriented attitude and store culture.
  • Guest Concerns: Manage and mitigate any reported guest concerns on designated shifts with a sense of urgency and involve appropriate regional team members as needed.
  • Cash Handling: Efficiently complete guest transactions at the cash register or self-checkout stations and suggest products that complement purchases.
Food Service:
  • Food Quality: Drive excellence in food service by executing designed processes, implementing goals to increase sales and margin, ensuring product quality, and using training resources.
  • Food Availability: Ensure all food offers are available; ensure preparation areas and equipment are clean and properly maintained.
Cleanliness:
  • Store Cleanliness: Encourage and manage a high standard of store cleanliness.
  • Safety Regulations: Direct, monitor, and adhere to all RaceTrac, federal, state, and local safety-related regulations, including food safety regulations.
  • Shift Duties: Execute shift duties, maintain overall presentation standards, and represent the RaceTrac brand.

  • Coaching and Training: Lead the coaching, training, and assessment of direct reports while adhering to operational standards.
Driving Success:
  • Inventory Management: Strategically direct control of inventory and the distribution of materials, merchandise, and supplies.
  • Financial Analysis: Review financial statements, sales, analysis reports, and other performance data to measure productivity.
  • Operational Improvements: Actively identify areas of operational improvements based on market trends.
  • Vendor Relationships: Develop and maintain a relationship with vendors to ensure efficient and correct deliveries.
  • Communication: Ensure communication is passed to every team member in the store.
  • Coaching and Development: Use company provided tools to coach, mentor and develop a high performing store team.
  • Risk Management: Ensure all risk management issues are in compliance with company standards.
  • Scheduling: Create or approve Management and Associate schedules to ensure proper staffing levels for expected sale volumes, while taking team member availability, payroll, and overtime costs into consideration.
  • Staffing: Own staffing in store by providing timely feedback on interviews to the recruiting team.
  • Hiring: Engage in the hiring of all store associates; develops managers to understand RaceTrac hiring processes and participate in hiring decisions.
  • Performance Management: Write, implement, and monitor manager development and performance plans.
  • Policies and Procedures: Ensure proper procedures are followed in regards to hiring, promotions and separations.
  • Team Member Compliance: Ensure all team members follow policies and company standards at all times.
  • Licenses: Ensures that all team members have correct valid licenses as required by state or local laws.
  • Budget and Cost Trends: Have complete understanding of budget and cost trends that impact operations; proactively work to drive sales and overall financial health of the store.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED in progress or completed.
  • Experience: 5+ years of prior food service, retail, or restaurant supervisory experience; retail management experience preferred.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Previous experience working in high-volume, guest-focused, transactional environment preferred; knowledge and skills in analyzing overall financial performance of the store including profit and loss statements.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Labor Laws and Staffing: Proven knowledge of Labor Laws and staffing best practices.
  • Physical Demands: Can lift up to 50 pounds and repeatedly bend, stand, and reach while on the job.
  • Certifications: Must obtain and maintain Manager Food Handler certification.
  • Alcohol Server Permit: May be required to obtain and maintain alcohol server permit, based on local or state requirements.
