We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Custodial Assistant to join our team at the Cedar Rapids Community School District. As a Custodial Assistant, you will play a critical role in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our school facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform general cleaning duties, including sweeping, cleaning of carpets and blinds, emptying of waste receptacles, and cleaning toilet facilities.
  • Assist with yard work, such as mowing, trimming, and general cleanup.
  • Help maintain athletic fields and keep walks and entries clear of ice and snow.
  • Assist with receiving and storing supplies for the building cafeteria.
  • Move and arrange furniture for school functions.
  • Perform additional requests of the building principal and engineer as needed.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to perform minor building repairs.
  • Knowledge of modern cleaning methods and the use and care of materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Valid Iowa driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
Working Environment

The work environment is usually quiet, but the employee may work in areas of a building or operate equipment where hearing protection is recommended. The employee will move, stand, and squat on an assortment of surfaces, including tile, wood, terrazzo, and concrete. The employee will generally work inside but will be required to work outside during hot or cold weather, rain, snow, sleet, and icy conditions performing their duties.

Classification

This position is classified as Category 'A' of the salary schedule of Maintenance and Custodial.
