The Property Accountant plays a crucial role in delivering monthly financial reports to the Operations Department while providing exceptional administrative support by executing tasks promptly and professionally.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accurately maintain the financial records for assigned properties, including the preparation and review of journal entries, on-site closing reports, general ledger analysis, financial statement generation, support schedule preparation, and distribution of owner reports.
  • Oversee the management of liquid assets for properties through cash flow report preparation, fund distribution, timely debt servicing, and initiation of capital calls.
  • Prepare third-party accounting reports as requested by owners or asset managers.
  • Review and approve invoices for payment processed by accounts payable associates to ensure compliance with corporate policies.
  • Understand and adhere to accounting policies and procedures established by the company and third-party owners.
  • Analyze and generate special reports as needed by management and property owners.
  • Provide necessary documentation for external audits.
  • Assist on-site teams in compiling and analyzing financial information to support property objectives.
  • Ensure timely reconciliation of assigned bank statements, addressing any outstanding items.
  • Organize and distribute owner report packages accurately and on time.
  • Maintain organized filing of all accounting closing reports.
  • Utilize computer functions effectively as required by management.
  • Communicate professionally with accounting staff, support personnel, and on-site associates to ensure all job functions are completed efficiently.
Qualifications

To excel in this role, candidates must demonstrate proficiency in the essential duties outlined. The following qualifications are necessary:

Education

A degree in accounting is mandatory. Proficiency in reading and writing English is required.

Professional Experience
A minimum of three years in the accounting sector with a solid grasp of generally accepted accounting principles is essential. Experience in real estate or property management is preferred.

Attendance/Travel Requirements
The role necessitates a commitment to work five days a week, with flexibility to exceed 40 hours per week to meet management deadlines. Minimal travel is expected.

Licenses/Equipment

Ability to operate standard office equipment, including computers, printers, copiers, fax machines, and postage machines.

  • Strong ability to collaborate with associates while completing tasks efficiently.
  • Adaptability to various accounting software.
  • Comprehensive understanding of generally accepted accounting practices.
  • Proficient accounting skills with knowledge of financial reporting components such as general ledger, balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities, with effective prioritization skills.

  • Follow Gables' Standard Operating Procedures diligently.
Computer Skills
  • Proficient in MS Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Successful completion of in-house training in Yardi and various banking software.
  • Strong internet proficiency.
