About the Position

Bonneville County is seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to fill the role of Bailiff. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our court proceedings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Attend in-court and video court sessions, opening the court by announcing the entrance of the judge and seating witnesses and jurors in specified areas.
  • Observe the courtroom congregation to maintain proper conduct and order, instructing parties on courtroom procedure and process as needed.
  • Operate and monitor security equipment, preventing public access to secure areas without undergoing screening.
  • Carry out instructions from the judge, limiting public contact and conversation with the jury to avoid exposure to prejudice.
  • Summon witnesses, escort jurors to lunch, deliberation, or to the scene of a crime when ordered, and deliver formal correspondence from the jury.
  • Act as the official custodian of the courtroom, overseeing heating, ventilation, lighting, furniture, and visual aids, and maintaining records of jury expenses.
  • Assist witnesses, litigants, and the public by answering questions about court procedures and functions, but not providing legal advice or discussing case merits.
  • Maintain order and control in courtrooms, observing the congregation for violations of regulations and responding to emergency situations as directed.
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: Four years of progressively responsible work experience, preferably in law enforcement or a related field.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Knowledge of court procedures and processes.
    • Interpersonal communication skills.
    • Common sense safety and security practices.
    • Legal restraint methods, civil procedures, and criminal code.
    • Self-defense methods.
    • CPR-First Aid.
  • Ability to remember details, follow verbal and written instructions, maintain confidentiality, and work well with people.
  • Must maintain a valid Idaho driver's license.
Work Environment

The functions of this position are generally performed in a controlled environment, with some functions posing a degree of hazard uncertainty. Physical readiness and conditioning may be a condition of job retention.
