Summary:

The Idaho Department of Correction aims to create a model correctional system that provides equitable access to programming and opportunities, fostering corrections and restoring victims of crime. As a Probation and Parole Officer Senior, you will employ a balance of principles related to counseling, case management, and law enforcement to ensure the safety of our communities and individuals under supervision. Trained in evidence-based practices, you will build rapport with clients and utilize community resources to assist them in moving toward long-term behavioral change.

Responsibilities:

  1. Counsel clients in addressing various problems, including drug and alcohol abuse, financial, marriage, employment, education, and legal issues.
  2. Design and implement case plans for clients and monitor progress.
  3. Facilitate and co-facilitate groups in areas such as employment, drug abuse, relationships, and finances.
  4. Prepare and submit reports, including violation, post-sentencing, pre-sentence investigation, and court reports.
  5. Investigate client behaviors, law violations, transfers, employment status, and residence.
  6. Arrest probationers or parolees, conduct searches, and secure evidence.
  7. Make home visits and employment and community contacts with treatment providers and members of the criminal justice system.


Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Some knowledge of behavioral science fundamentals, typically gained through completion of at least 12 credit hours of college-level coursework in behavioral or social sciences, or an internship (at least 150 hours) related to this field, or at least 1 year of full-time experience involving daily interaction with clients and/or offenders.
  2. Some knowledge of criminal justice, typically gained from completion of at least 6 credit hours or 36 hours of training regarding criminal justice or a closely related field, or at least 6 months of full-time experience working in the criminal justice system.
  3. Some knowledge of identifying social or human science resources to fit the needs of clients.
  4. Some knowledge of computer operations, including entering, retrieving, and storing data.
  5. Experience writing detailed reports.
  6. Some knowledge of managing a caseload with conflicting priorities.
  7. Willingness to work with individuals with criminal backgrounds and anti-social behaviors.
  8. Meet the entrance requirements established by the Idaho Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Academy for Correctional Officers.
  9. Pass an aptitude test.
