Position Summary for Patent Attorney in Bioengineering
We are representing a distinguished Amlaw200 firm in their search for a Patent Attorney with a focus on bioengineering, located in Houston. This role involves engaging in transactional legal work and overseeing patent prosecution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive evaluations and assessments of bioengineering patent submissions, ensuring adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and patent office protocols.
  • Draft precise and well-structured patent applications for bioengineering innovations, incorporating detailed technical descriptions and legal assertions.
  • Collaborate closely with inventors, researchers, and clients to grasp the technical nuances of bioengineering innovations while providing strategic legal counsel.
  • Conduct patentability assessments and review prior art to determine the originality and patent eligibility of bioengineering innovations.
  • Prepare detailed responses to communications from patent examiners, including crafting arguments and modifications to address rejections.
  • Oversee and manage a portfolio of bioengineering patent applications, ensuring deadline compliance, client communication, and necessary documentation submissions.
  • Support due diligence processes and offer legal insights related to intellectual property in transactional contexts, such as mergers, acquisitions, and licensing agreements, particularly in bioengineering sectors.
  • Stay informed on developments in patent legislation and regulations pertinent to bioengineering innovations, providing clients with timely advice.
  • Engage in meetings, hearings, and negotiations with clients, patent examiners, and opposing counsel as required, showcasing the firm's expertise in bioengineering patents.
  • Work synergistically with fellow attorneys and support personnel within the Houston office and across the firm to deliver comprehensive legal services to clients.
  • Uphold confidentiality and integrity when managing sensitive client information and matters concerning bioengineering patents.
  • Contribute to business development initiatives by participating in client presentations, networking events, and outreach efforts to attract and retain clients within the bioengineering field.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law institution with outstanding academic performance (top 25% required).
  • A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience and Bar membership in Texas and the USPTO. A portfolio of portable business is advantageous.
