Job Summary

Indiana University is seeking a skilled Refrigeration Mechanic to join our team. As a key member of our facilities department, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our commercial refrigeration systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance, repairs, and installations on commercial refrigeration systems, including chillers, central air systems, and refrigeration equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with refrigeration systems, identifying and resolving problems in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Collaborate with other tradespeople to ensure seamless operation of HVAC systems and other building systems.
  • Conduct regular inspections of refrigeration systems to identify potential issues and prevent downtime.
  • Develop and implement maintenance schedules to ensure optimal performance of refrigeration systems.
  • Provide excellent customer service to IU staff and faculty, responding promptly to requests for assistance and providing clear communication on system status and maintenance schedules.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; certificate in a relevant trade or apprenticeship program preferred.
  • 5 years of verifiable journey-level experience in refrigeration mechanics or a related field.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to be insured by Indiana University.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing tasks and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of applicable building codes, regulations, and industry standards.
Working Conditions

This role requires the ability to work in a variety of environments, including indoor and outdoor settings, and to lift up to 75 pounds. The successful candidate will be able to work at heights, navigate confined spaces, and detect a variety of chemicals and gases.
