Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts is seeking an experienced Environmental Service Specialist II to join our team at the Brockton Multi-Service Center. As a key member of our facilities management team, you will be responsible for ensuring the effective operation of our Environmental Services Department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and supervise the activities of the Environmental Services Department to ensure compliance with established protocols and procedures.
  • Conduct regular inspections of the facility to determine cleanliness and ensure compliance with accreditation standards.
  • Work with the Facilities Director to ensure the Environment of Care standards related to Environmental Services are met and maintained.
  • Manage inventory and control over supplies and materials, and ensure proper storage and ordering procedures.
  • Assist in the receiving and dispensing of supplies, and maintain clean and organized supply closets.
  • Clean floors, walls, elevators, and restroom facilities using approved custodial equipment and techniques.
  • Perform emergency clean-up as needed to ensure the safety of clients and staff.
  • Check and replenish soap, hand sanitizer, and mask dispensers, and remove empty containers.
  • Strip and wax floors as needed, and move and relocate furniture and equipment for better utilization of space.
  • Remove trash and recyclables from the premises, and disinfect receptacles as needed.
  • Sweep, wash, and disinfect stairwells on a weekly basis.
  • Participate in the orientation of new employees, and train Environmental Services staff on safety procedures and protocols.
  • Communicate with clients and staff as needed, and update the Facilities Director on ongoing projects and issues.
  • Work cooperatively with other employees in the Department, and perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Ability to deal tactfully with others.
  • Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.
  • Physical stamina and endurance.
  • Knowledge of materials and equipment used in institutional housekeeping.
  • Knowledge of methods, techniques, safety practices, and procedures followed in institutional housekeeping.
  • Ability to give oral and written instructions in a precise and understandable manner.
  • Ability to supervise and train staff, including planning and assigning work, controlling work through periodic reviews, and determining training needs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and procedures.
  • Experience working in a healthcare or institutional setting.
