Yard Attendant Job Description

Carter Machinery Company, Inc. is seeking a skilled Yard Attendant to join our team. As a Yard Attendant, you will be responsible for loading, unloading, and receiving/releasing all equipment, generators, and attachments. You will maintain the organization of the yard for easy access and direct the delivery and returns for all equipment. This role requires basic check-in inspections and communication of any issues to the supervisor. Additional responsibilities include delivering parts, inventorying, and cleaning equipment. We are looking for candidates with mechanical aptitude and excellent communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Load, unload, and receive/release all equipment, generators, and attachments.
  • Maintain the organization of the yard for easy access.
  • Direct the delivery and returns for all equipment.
  • Perform basic check-in inspections and communicate any issues to the supervisor.
  • Deliver parts, inventory, and clean equipment.
Requirements:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Must be self-directed, organized, and able to interact with coworkers and train new yard attendants.
  • Must be able to multi-task.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with ability to prioritize tasks with competing demands.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Must be able to work additional hours to meet business and customer needs.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record.
Physical Requirements:

The Yard Attendant must be able to lift, carry, and maneuver items up to 50 pounds, including bulky objects. This role requires repeated reaching, standing, stooping, kneeling, bending, and climbing beside, onto, and under a variety of heavy equipment. The Yard Attendant must also be able to work outside in inclement weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, dampness, and humidity.
