Job Summary

The Indian Health Service is seeking a highly skilled Patient Registration and Admission Representative to join our team. As a key member of our Patient Registration and Admission Section, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth registration and admission process for our patients.

Responsibilities

  • Interview patients to obtain and verify demographic information, including contact and insurance details.
  • Enter patient information into our RPMS database, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Explain the importance of gathering information for the permanent health record and provide appointment and scheduling information to patients.
  • Determine and establish patient eligibility for healthcare services, including verification of alternate resources.
  • Identify and verify patients with third-party coverage and obtain authorization with appropriate signatures.
  • Provide information on rights and benefits of resources and advise patients of non-payment or denial of claims.
  • Follow up on all pending applications and work closely with families and agencies to ensure patients are not discriminated against.
  • Perform a variety of patient representative functions, including assisting with applications for alternate resources.
  • Initiate admitting and pre-admitting forms for direct admission, transfers, pre-admissions, same-day admissions, and day surgery.

Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience in patient registration, medical records, or a related field.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare staff.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Basic arithmetic skills sufficient to review claims and correct amounts of allowable items.

Education

  • Four years of education above the high school level, or a combination of education and experience that meets the minimum qualifications.

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to work in a healthcare environment and interact with patients, families, and healthcare staff.
  • May be required to work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
