Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant to join our team at WellSpan Health. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing safe, therapeutic, and efficient care to patients. Your primary responsibilities will include assisting in direct patient care, performing treatments, administering medications (if qualified and appropriately supervised), and instructing patients and their families in appropriate care, as directed by their provider.

Key Responsibilities
  • Obtain and document patient vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, weight, BMI, respirations, and pulse.
  • Collect and process specimens as directed by the provider, ensuring all specimens are tracked and logged prior to transportation to the lab.
  • Ensure all patient care areas are adequately stocked with unexpired medical supplies and equipment, and perform regular biomedical assessment checks.
  • Prepare patients for scheduled procedures by ensuring they are appropriately gowned and instruments and supplies are set up.
  • Use Standard Precautions for all patient encounters and arrange for patients' ordered diagnostic and therapeutic services by completing necessary paperwork and scheduling appointments.
  • Under the direction of the provider, track, review, and monitor follow-up of diagnostic test results, and relay information to patients regarding results and follow-up instructions.
  • Prepare and administer vaccines, medications, and controlled substances/narcotics as prescribed by the provider and as skilled competencies permit.
  • Document and process prescription requests and refills per protocol, and perform basic office procedures, examinations, and/or tests ordered by the provider.
  • Provide patients with standard patient care instructions and education, and review with patients and family members as directed by providers.
  • Obtain comprehensive health information from patients/family members to review with providers or clinical resources over the phone, and use this information to assist providers in determining the urgency for care or an alternative venue for care for patients with acute problems.
Requirements
  • Associates Degree in Medical Assisting or Practical Nursing required.
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification upon hire required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon hire required.
  • Medical terminology knowledge required.
  • Ability to effectively present clinical information to the care team, proficient communication skills, and ability to work independently.
Work Environment

This role requires standing, walking, sitting, carrying/lifting (up to 50lbs), pushing/pulling (up to 50lbs), kneeling/crouching, reaching, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Occupational hazards and bloodborne pathogen exposure may occur.
