Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant to join our team at WellSpan Health. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Obtain and document patient vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, weight, BMI, respirations, and pulse.
  • Collect and process specimens as directed by the provider, ensuring all necessary equipment and protocols are followed.
  • Ensure all patient care areas are adequately stocked with unexpired medical supplies and equipment is in good working condition.
  • Prepare patients for scheduled procedures, ensuring they are appropriately gowned and instruments and supplies are set up.
  • Under the direction of the provider, track, review, and monitor follow-up of diagnostic test results, relaying information to patients regarding results and follow-up instructions.
  • Administer vaccines, medications, and controlled substances/narcotics as prescribed by the provider and as skilled competencies permit.
  • Document and process prescription requests and refills per protocol.
  • Perform basic office procedures, examinations, and/or tests ordered by the provider and as skill competencies demonstrate competence.
  • Provide patients with standard patient care instructions and education, reviewing with patients and family members as directed by providers.
  • Obtain comprehensive health information from patients/family members to review with providers or clinical resources over the phone, using this information to assist providers in determining the urgency for care or an alternative venue for care.
  • Return calls to patients in a timely manner.
  • Complete pre-visit planning and visit prep according to established guidelines, obtaining comprehensive health information from patients/family members at the time of the visit.
  • Efficiently manage daily patient flow to manage fluctuating patient volumes and demands, prioritizing daily patient care tasks and activities delegated by the care team.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of patient health information, completing annual WSH Corporate Compliance and other mandatory education.
  • Support the provider during the visit and patient exam, collecting and entering information in the patient record, carrying out orders, and completing post-visit patient care education and instructions.
Requirements
  • Associates Degree in Medical Assisting or Practical Nursing required.
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification required upon hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire.
  • Certificate of completion from an accredited Medical Assistant program or National Medical Assistant Certification required upon hire.
  • Medical terminology knowledge required.

This role requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing tasks and managing multiple responsibilities. The successful candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
