Overview

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a committed and passionate Research Scientist to contribute to the Injury and Violence Prevention Research Lab. The ideal candidate will collaborate with faculty, graduate students, and research personnel on various initiatives aimed at understanding and mitigating violence, particularly among youth with externalizing disorders.

Key Responsibilities

Research Leadership
- Design, develop, and lead studies focused on violence prevention and developmental psychopathology.
- Assist in writing proposals for external funding opportunities.
- Publish findings in reputable peer-reviewed journals.
- Mentor graduate students, research assistants, and junior researchers in their research endeavors.
- Collaborate with experts across multiple disciplines to enhance the impact of research.

Data Management & Analysis
- Supervise the collection, management, and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data.
- Ensure the ethical treatment of human subjects and data integrity.
- Utilize advanced statistical techniques for data interpretation.
- Maintain a comprehensive research database.

Outreach & Collaboration
- Share research findings at academic conferences, public lectures, and community events.
- Build partnerships with governmental and non-governmental organizations for research collaboration and implementation of findings.

Administrative Duties
- Assist in preparing annual reports, grant applications, and other administrative documentation.
- Represent the research lab in departmental and institutional initiatives.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff and students.

Required Qualifications
Ph.D. in Psychology, Social Science, or a closely related discipline Proven research experience in violence prevention, developmental psychopathology, or personality disorders Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., SPSS, R, SAS) Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment Preferred Qualifications
Interest or experience in virtual reality applications Background in psychophysiology Publications in the fields of violence prevention or developmental psychopathology Research experience related to gun violence prevention Familiarity with IRB proposal processes History of securing federal funding Additional Information
