Job Summary:
As a Pharmacy Technician Trainee Outpatient FT Call Center, you will perform a variety of semi-technical and clerical duties, including filling, packaging, and providing medication. You will also restock to fixed levels, compound or repackage medication following established policies, practices, procedures, or specific instructions, and within Federal and State statutes and regulations.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Greet patients, members, and other healthcare personnel in a caring and helpful manner, and initiate service transactions using proper forms and processes.
  • Refer all inquiries or issues regarding patient-care/consultation to a pharmacist.
  • Assist with inputting patient and prescription information to produce labels and assist in the prescription filling process.
  • Match prescriptions with labels, select the proper drug and quantity to be dispensed, fill containers, apply labels, and present completed products to a pharmacist for checking.
  • Prepare adequate supplies of medication for unit dose distribution.
  • Process Clinic and Hospital Drug Requisitions, receive, fill, and medical supply requests, check stock levels per schedule, remove outdated goods, and replenish to fixed levels.
  • Fills and updates unit dose cassettes per determined supply.
  • Assist with and/or provide medication (checked by a pharmacist), OTC products, or supplies to the correct patient in a helpful and caring manner.
  • Refer all consultation functions to a pharmacist, collect money if needed.
  • Pick-up and deliver medications and supplies to designated areas or persons per schedule.
  • Calculate prices for prescriptions or orders, sell non-prescription drugs, collect cash, checks, or credit card payments for all collectible services, verify information is accurate on all checks, assure valid authorization is received for all credit card payments, validate checks and credit slips, and issue receipts accordingly.
  • Balance monies, checks, and credit card charge documents daily against cash register receipts, reconcile any discrepancies, prepare bank deposits.
  • Gather and compute data and information for various needs pertaining to health plans, non-plans, special, and routine reports, studies, and statistics as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate OTC charge schedules and price lists, adjust changes.
  • Order routine bank supplies for the cashiering area, assure all equipment in the cashiering area is operating in an acceptable manner, advise a supervisor of any malfunctions, and/or report same to the appropriate service company.
  • Maintain an appropriate level of drugs and supplies for operations.
  • Order, receive, store, return, credit, and discard drugs and supplies.
  • Pack, compound, reconstitute, and distribute inventory for issue, transfer, or dispensing.
  • File prescriptions and any transaction documents of pharmacy operations timely and appropriately.
  • Accept responsibility for resolving immediate problems and accomplishing assigned tasks and reporting irregularities.
  • Inspect and maintain the work area and equipment in an organized, clean, safe, and efficient working condition.
  • Observe and comply with departmental policies and procedures and organization house rules, such as but not limited to safety, attendance, proper attire, and continuing education.
  • Coordinate and answer incoming phone calls, handle or direct calls to the appropriate individuals.

Basic Qualifications:
Experience

Previous pharmacy experience required or in a pharmacy technician training program.

Complete Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) within 2 years of hiring.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent related experience.

License, Certification, Registration

Additional Requirements:
Ability to follow instructions and to troubleshoot equipment problems.

Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in adaptability, customer service, oral communication, multi-tasking, teamwork, and written communication.

Talking to co-workers, customers, outside vendors, and on the telephone.

Reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.

Training/giving and receiving instructions.

Mathematical ability, attention to detail (e.g. organization, prioritization, proofing), concentration, and alertness.

Preferred Qualifications:
Completion of Pharmacy technician training program.

Post high school coursework training.
