Job Summary:

As a Pharmacy Technician at Queen's Health System, you will play a vital role in ensuring the efficient and accurate dispensing of medications to our patients. Under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist, you will perform technical functions in the inpatient pharmacy, including filling routine orders, pre-packing medications, managing floor stock, and preparing medications for automated dispensing.

Responsibilities:

  • Fill routine orders and prepare medications for dispensing, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Manage floor stock and maintain a clean and organized workspace.
  • Perform duties in accordance with departmental and Medical Center policies and procedures.

Physical Demands:

Essential:

standing, walking, stooping/bending, finger dexterity, seeing, hearing, speaking; lifting usual weight up to 40 pounds for 5 feet, pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds for 200 feet, carrying up to 40 pounds for 200 feet.


Frequent:

climbing stairs, walking on uneven ground, reaching above/at/below shoulder, repetitive arm/hand motions, static gripping of an object for prolonged period, frequent gripping of an object.


Occasional:
sitting, kneeling, crawling, squatting, twisting body.

  • Operate various office/pharmaceutical equipment such as typewriter, computer, copier, telephones, calculator, cash register, dispensing machines, drug packaging machine, TPN mixing machine, pneumatic tube system, fax machine, etc.

Working Conditions:

  • Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.
  • Some exposure to cold temperature from freezer.
  • Exposure to noise/vibration from air conditioner, and office/pharmacy equipment.
  • Exposure to body fluids, chemicals, some contact with patients with communicable diseases.
  • May be required to work with hazardous drugs, depending upon area of assignment.
  • Work environment is fast paced, congested and may be stressful.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certificate of completion from a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) recognized or American Society of Health-System Pharmacy (ASHP) accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program; or three (3) months of work experience as a Pharmacy Technician may be substituted for the education requirement.
  • Hospital technician training and work experience preferred.
  • Experience to demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in computers and word processing applications, i.e. Microsoft Word.
