Overview:
This role presents a chance to contribute to a dedicated team focused on ensuring the safety, cleanliness, and operational efficiency of the City of Escondido. As a Part-Time Maintenance Specialist/Custodian I within the Public Works Department/Building Maintenance Division, your duties will encompass:
- Sweeping, mopping, and polishing various flooring types.
- Cleaning carpets, furnishings, and metal fixtures.
- Sanitizing surfaces in restrooms and kitchens.
- Conducting minor repairs and maintenance on equipment.
- Operating municipal vehicles and arranging equipment for events.
- Adhering to safety protocols and guidelines.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Executing diverse cleaning tasks including mopping, vacuuming, and dusting.
  • Managing inventory and restocking cleaning supplies.
  • Completing work orders and performing minor building upkeep.
  • Securing facilities and buildings.
  • Instructing colleagues on proper cleaning techniques.
The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Clear communication skills with coworkers and the public.
  • Proficient English language skills.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Class 'C' California driver's license.
  • Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment:
Work Environment: Duties are performed both indoors and outdoors, with exposure to various elements and cleaning chemicals.
Physical Demands: Requires continuous walking, lifting, and reaching for objects of varying weights.
Communication Skills: Vision and language proficiency are essential for safety and documentation.

Additional Information:
This position is limited to 1,000 hours per fiscal year and adheres to a drug-free workplace policy.
