The Building Permit Review Coordinator plays a crucial role in overseeing the evaluation and processing of building permit applications. This position involves ensuring compliance with established regulations and providing essential support to both the public and internal teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team responsible for assessing building permit applications, ensuring thoroughness and adherence to guidelines.
- Conduct training sessions for staff, verifying accuracy and compliance with established standards.
- Perform complex technical tasks related to building permit processing.
- Review applications for completeness and conformity with local building and land use codes.
- Manage the acceptance and evaluation of plans, ensuring they meet necessary requirements for permit issuance.
- Coordinate with various city departments to verify project statuses and issue necessary certificates.
- Assist in processing smaller projects, such as fences and minor additions, while issuing permits as required.
- Provide guidance to architects, contractors, and property owners regarding building codes and requirements.
- Calculate and collect applicable fees for permit applications and related activities.
- Maintain accurate records and respond to inquiries from the public and other stakeholders.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:
- A strong understanding of building permit review processes and relevant city regulations.
- Experience in leading and training staff in a similar environment.
- Excellent customer service skills and the ability to handle complex inquiries.
- Proficiency in office software and record-keeping practices.
Education and Experience
A high school diploma or equivalent, along with three years of relevant experience in building permit reviews, is required. Possession of an ICC Permit Technician Certificate is preferred.
Work Environment
This position primarily operates in an office setting with significant public interaction. Candidates should be prepared for a variety of physical tasks associated with office work.
