Lab Animal Care Specialist

The Tufts University Division of Animal Resources is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Lab Animal Care Technician to join our team. As a key member of our Laboratory Animal Medicine Service, you will play a critical role in facilitating research and teaching with animals at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine.
Key Responsibilities- Provide exceptional husbandry and care for a diverse range of laboratory and teaching animals, including receipt and transport, feeding and watering, cage cleaning and maintenance, and monitoring health and welfare.
- Document and maintain accurate animal census and health records, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations and Tufts University policies.
- Operate various equipment and vehicles, including autoclaves, cage washers, and forklifts, while maintaining a safe and secure work environment.
- Train and assess competency of new hires, providing technical support for experimental procedures and assisting veterinarians and investigators as needed.
- Work effectively in a BSL-2 environment, BSL-3 environment, select agent environment, and farm environment, with a focus on humane animal handling and care.
- 1 year prior experience with animals in a research or veterinary setting.
- H.S. Diploma or equivalent.
- A valid driver's license and ability to maintain it for the duration of employment.
- Required computer/technical skills, including Microsoft Windows programs and email network access.
- A.A. or vocational training or AALAS certification.
- Additional familiarity with research settings and applicable federal and state regulations.
- AALAS certification at ALAT or higher level.
