Job Summary

The Tufts University Foster Hospital for Small Animals is seeking a part-time Animal Care Assistant to support our mission by providing general housekeeping services and ensuring care, cleanliness, and comfort for all the dogs, cats, and exotic pets treated in our inpatient, outpatient, and emergency services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality patient care, including feeding and watering patients as ordered by clinicians.
  • Assist veterinary technicians in completing patient treatments, demonstrating proper animal handling and humane restraint techniques.
  • Clean and stock patient care areas and food room.
  • Work a varied schedule, including evenings and weekends, with University holiday and calendar holiday coverage.
  • Basic computer skills, including the ability to learn the electronic medical record system.

Requirements

  • Vocational/technical training or Associate's Degree preferred, with one or more years of experience.
  • Knowledge of animal behavior, restraint, feeding, and basic sanitation.
  • Exotic animal handling skills, including birds, rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs, rodents, special small mammals, reptiles, and amphibians.
